Drive one 4 UR community fundraising campaign

SUBMITTED

Employees of Denham Ford, members of the fundraising team for the Kootenay Child Development Centre and local community members will try to raise thousands of dollars on Saturday for our region’s 1st Child Development Centre.

Denham Ford will host a ‘Drive One 4 UR Community’ event on Saturday, September 10 from 9am until 4pm in the parking lot across from Giant Tiger, Safeway and the Baker Street Mall; the future location of the Kootenay Child Development Centre.

This is a test drive event in which Ford Canada will donate $20 to the Kootenay Child Development Centre for every test drive that is taken on a new Ford vehicle. The company will donate that for up to 300 test drives, making a possible goal of $6,000. Also, every person that takes a test drive will have their name put in a draw for some wonderful prizes donated by local businesses.

“So we’re trying to get 300 test drivers and I think we will hit that goal. We feel that a project such as the Kootenay Child Development Centre is crucial to the families of the East Kootenay Region so we want to do everything we can to support that.  It especially feels good to be helping children and making their lives better.  Most of us at Denham Ford are also parents, so this is a need we all get on board with.” says Braydon Denham, Owner/General Manager of Denham Ford.

Following their test drive, participants are invited to a BBQ, children’s activities, and to take a shot at soaking a local celebrity at the dunk tank. Braydon has even offered himself up as a ‘victim’…We are also fortunate to have Sweetheart of Sam Steele Amanda Musso and Princess of Sam Steele Mallory Balfour as part of our line up of local celebrities.

The vision of the Kootenay Child Development project is the creation of a hub of co-located health and development services that will be in a central location and easily accessible.  Services will include Pediatricians, Infant Development program, Supported Child Development program, Interior Health Children’s Assessment Network, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, East Kootenay Child Care Resource and Referral, Children First, and Kids Connection Preschool.  The new Centre will also house a large boardroom with telehealth video conferencing capability, that will help reduce the amount of travel many families currently face to access these services outside of our region.

This is a regional project and will benefit children, youth and families in the entire region.  The fundraising committee has reached over $450,000 in their fundraising efforts and have had many contributors to that goal such as TELUS, East Kootenay Community Credit Union, Columbia Basin Trust, Steve Nash Foundation, United Way of Cranbrook/Kimberley and East Kootenay Success by 6.

“We are delighted that Denham Ford can be added to our list of donors to the project,” states Patricia Whalen, Children First Manger for the East Kootenay Region, “their support for the Kootenay Child Development Centre shows that the business community is behind us in our fundraising efforts and when everyone pulls together for the Centre, great things can happen.  The “Drive One for Your Community” event will be a great way to celebrate the beginning of construction on the building and also to let the public know of our other up and coming fundraising events.
