Cranbrook has a new sweetheart

Amanda Musso was crowned the 2011 Sweetheart of Sam Steele at the Sam Steele Youth Ambassador Pageant in Cranbrook on Friday, June 17. Her sponsor was the Lions Club of Cranbrook. Mallory Balfour is the 2011 Princess of Sam Steele. She was sponsored by the Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary.

The other candidates were:

Krista Fruncillo (Investors Group)
Danica Jensen (Cranbrook Rotary Club)
Kashtyn Johnstone (Kin Club of Cranbrook)
Riley Kernaghan (Fraternal Order of Eagles)
Hayley Wheatley (Cristoforo Colombo Lodge)
Sharnell Yaretz (Cranbrook Society for Community Living)

The eight candidates offered a speech, a talent presentation and posed in their era gowns to answer an impromptu question.

Other awards handed out that night included the Toastmasters Public Speaking Award and the People's Choice Award. Both awards went to Amanda Musso. Danica Jensen received the Talent Award and Riley Kernaghan was given the Community Awareness Award and a $500 scholarship.

The outgoing ambassadors, Sweetheart Kinnon Smith and Princess Mara Mahovlic, also said their farewells.
