Showcasing up and coming artists is an important part of building an exciting lineup of artists at the Key City Theatre. Meaghan Smith is no exception when it comes to vibrant Canadian talent.

Meaghan Smith is a singer. She has always been a singer. “I feel like I was born into it. I have a very musical family—my mom is a piano teacher and my dad played bass in a rock band when he was younger. There was always music around, whether it was coming from the piano, from my sisters practicing their instruments, or from the radio.”

You may recognize Meaghan’s voice from the 500 Days of Summer soundtrack, where she covered the Pixies song, “Here Comes Your Man” or you may have been following career since the release of her 2011 album, The Cricket’s Orchestra. This release got her the recognition needed to get her name and voice onto the airwaves of Canadian radio. All the hard work Meaghan put into The Cricket’s Orchestra paid off, winning her the Best Pop Recording of the Year at the 2011 East Coast Music Awards, and winning the 2011 Juno Award for Best New Artist. Her style is referred to as “modern vintage,” with influences from the ‘20s, ‘30s and ‘40’s.” It has been described as if Bjork worked with K.D. Lang and Doris Day.

Meaghan is currently touring her latest release “It Snowed”, bringing her love of the Holidays to Cranbrook. This album was inspired by Meaghan’s love of the season. In her own words, “There’s something about long dark winter nights contrasted with brilliantly sparkling snowy days, or freezing winter air and the comforting heat of an inviting fire. People are thinking of each other, buying gifts for one another or just getting together. It’s the traditions, the food, the friends, the family, the lights and the music that I love. I want to be a part of the joy in people’s holidays.” Meaghan will be delighting the audience with an eclectic holiday collection of songs, some original and some standard favorites. The title track “It Snowed” carries on with Meaghan’s unique modern/vintage vibe featuring antiqued sounding samples under Meaghan’s pop melody.

This is the perfect show to get into the spirit of the Holidays. Meaghan Smith will be performing at the Key City Theatre on  December 2 @ 7:30. Tickets are available at Key City Theatre Box Office or by calling 250-426-7006.
