Off Centre Players present Calendar Girls

The Off Centre Players in cooperation with Cranbrook Community Theatre are presenting “Calendar Girls” in both Kimberley and Cranbrook as a fundraiser for cancer care in the East Kootenays.

Written by Time Firth and Juliette Towhidi and based on the 2003 movie, this stage play chronicles the real-life story of a “Women’s Institute” chapter’s fundraising efforts to support a local hospital in Yorkshire, England while a loved one goes through cancer treatment. The women come up with a brilliant idea to produce a calendar to raise money – not just any calendar – a beautiful calendar of themselves posing in the nude.

This funny and poignant show features so many amazing talents from both the Kimberley and Cranbrook area. Many faces will be familiar to local theatre-goers, but we are pleased to introduce a few newcomers as well. Directed by Terry Miller, “Calendar Girls” features Killeen Delorme, Susan Hanson, Joanne Wilkinson, Michelle McCue, Nola Doiron, Michelle LeMay, Maureen Smith, Sioban Staplin, Tylene Turner, Brigitte Franyo, Barry Borgstrom, Thom McCaughey, Jerrod Bondy and Andy Rogers. The lovely cast and crew are the heart and soul of this project and bring their own experiences and wisdom to their characters.

Many people in our communities have been affected by cancer and the Off Centre Players would like to help. In 2012, the group produced “Little Shop of Horrors” as a fundraiser for Centre 64 in Kimberley to make upgrades in the theatre. It was so successful that they decided to run another fundraiser – this time with “Calendar Girls”, they are donating 10% of ticket sales and 100% of cast calendar profits to the East Kootenay Foundation for Health for cancer care in our area.

“Calendar Girls” will be on stage in Kimberley at Centre 64 from May 6-10, and then in Cranbrook at Studio/Stage Door from May 13-17. Tickets are $20 per person and on sale now – for tickets to the Kimberley show, please visit the Snowdrift Café in the Kimberley Platzl (427-2001). For tickets to the Cranbrook show, please visit Lotus Books (426-3415).

The brave ladies on our cast also agreed to pose nude for a 2015 Cast Calendar and the result is a gorgeous and fun way to support the fundraising efforts of this project. These calendars make a great gift, a fun and sassy addition to your garage wall or a wonderful reminder every month of how we can all be involved in helping cancer patients in the East Kootenays. They are also available for purchase at the ticket locations and in various locations throughout the East Kootenays.

Don’t miss out on this incredible show and chance to support friends, family and neighbors – we are all in this together. For more information about you can be involved, please visit The Off Centre Players Facebook page or email us at theoffcentreplayers@gmail.com.
