On the 14th day of March 2013 at 5:52 in the morning, Cranbrook RCMP responded to a complaint of a prowler in the 1800 block of 6th St S, who was slashing vehicle tires. Upon police attendance the officers heard a “whomp” sound as they entered a back yard and immediately saw a wooden garden shed on fire.

The officers acted quickly to evacuate the residence and a neighboring residence then used a garden hose to keep the adjoining residence cool and slow the fire’s spread, while they called the Cranbrook Fire Department, who arrived very quickly and extinguished the flames.

The damage was limited to the garden shed with some damage to the adjoining residence.

Shortly after 7 a.m., members of the Cranbrook RCMP arrested a 23 year old male after he had called police to turn himself in.

A bail hearing will be conducted later today where the suspect will be facing charges including Arson and Mischief.

If anyone has any additional information about this or any other crime they can call the Cranbrook RCMP at 250-489-3471 or East Kootenay Crimestoppers (1-800-222-TIPS)

You can also leave a Crimestoppers webtip.
