The Coquihalla Highway has reopened.

Three helicopters dropping explosives on avalanche-prone areas ran out of daylight on Friday, but when daylight resumed Saturday, it showed their efforts had been successful.

A Class 4 avalanche closed the highway Thursday, and another 30 cm of snow fell Thursday night.

"This huge volume of snow is sitting on a weak layer, making it very unstable," Transportation Minister Todd Stone said Friday. "The result has been slides on paths that have never before reached the highway in the 27 years that the Coquihalla Highway has been open."

Updates on highway conditions for the Coquihalla and other B.C. highways are available at DriveBC.
