Olympic torch ignites Cranbrook spirit
The Olympic Torch Relay passed through the East Kootenay this weekend, passing through nearly every city, town and village. The Torch reached Cranbrook on Friday, Jan. 22 and was brought into the RecPlex parking lot by final torchbearer Erin Thom. Thom lit the cauldron in front of over 5,000 people that were on hand for the city’s Community Spirit Celebration. Thom was joined on stage bye several dignitaries including Cranbrook mayor Scott Manjak, Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett, and B.C. premier Gordon Campbell.
