Cranbrook Elite open their season

The Cranbrook Elite  Tier II Junior B lacrosse team kicked off the 2011 season with a couple of home games on the weekend.

On Saturday night, the team under the direction of head coach Ron Miles faced the Medicine Hat Sun Devils. In the first period, the Elite held their own, keeping the score at 2-4 with goals by Mike Miles and Dean Ogren. The second and third period were entirely in the Hands of the Sun Devils, only Brodie Liddle able to squeak one by Medicine Hat’s goalie for the 3-14 final score.

It was a much more even match against the Strathmore Venom on Sunday afternoon. Tyler Stefanson put the Elite on the board first and Nik Dean, Dave Nesbitt, Kyle Lomon, Tanner Rennich (with two) and Mackenzie Miles also scored for a final 7-9 decision in favour of the Venom.

Both games were played at the newly renovated Memorial Arena as the RecPlex is still occupied with the Kootenay Ice continuing their WHL playoff drive.
